Well my first (and only) high school dance was mostly awkward. Took a while to find someone who would consent to go with me. My older sister Anne helped with this as much as she did with so many other things.
A high school dance is no doubt meant to be a kind of coming out event. Yet high school guys at least are little equal to the occasion. I am sure the young ladies are far more equal to the occasion!
Still, it is probably just as important to introduce youngsters to this as to anything else in the sciences, humanities, and sports.
That was about 4 decades ago now. I feel equal to the occasion of most things a lot more often than I did as a youngster in my teens. Feeling equal to the occasion, feeling confident, does make such a difference, doesn't it?
