Anxiety and Stress Management Techniques

Anxiety and stress management can be a challenging process at times.  No matter how much you try, the anxieties weigh upon you.  Just being stressed seems to cause more of it. It is a cruel cycle.

Stop letting anxiety and stress rule your life, and take back your ability to relax and be happy.  Learn to manage it, and start seeing improvements in your productivity and health almost instantly.

The Dangers of Anxiety and Stress

Stress hurts when it becomes long-term.  When stressed, our bodies release a hormone that is called cortisol which makes us more alert and ready to respond to the situation.  The problem is that when we remain in that situation for extended periods of time, cortisol continues to be produced…and that has damaging health effects on our bodies including:

•              Weight gain

•              Depression, moodiness, irritability

•              Memory loss

•              Inability to concentrate

•              Tension headaches

•              Jaw or tooth problems from clenching the jaw or grinding teeth

•              Increase in blood pressure which can lead to heart problems

•              Suppressed immune system

•              Digestive problems

•              Acne or other skin problems

Anxiety and Stress Management Techniques

When you feel pressured and frazzled, do something about it.  It might mean changing your habits a bit, but it is well worth it.  Because anxiety and stress stem from all sorts of factors, there is no single way to manage them.  If one way does not work for you, try another.  Ideally, combining most of these anxiety and stress management techniques will give you the greatest benefit.

Make sure that you get enough sleep every night...

That might pose a challenge because stress causes anxiety and that can make it hard for you to fall asleep.   If you are having trouble sleeping, try listening to a guided meditation CD or find clips to play on YouTube to help you fall asleep. Nature sounds work well too.    Sleep helps boost your immune system.  No matter how busy you are, try to get at least 6-8 hours of sleep nightly.

If workplace stress is causing you constant tension, examine it to see if there is anything that you can do to help alleviate the situation.  For example, you might want to evaluate if that job is worth sacrificing your health and wellness.  If you cannot remove the stressful situation totally, then learn to manage it by limiting your exposure.  Take breaks during the day… time that is just for you, away from the stress causing factors.

Everybody has a breaking limit, know when your limit is about to be reached and take a break.  Go for a short walk, get a glass of water or take a bathroom break.  This will help calm you down, and you can react better to the situation when you return.

Spend time daily doing something that you love.  Half an hour or more of “you,” time is necessary daily. Not taking any time for yourself can cause problems.

Saying “no” is not a bad thing.  If you are too busy to take on anything else, simply say “no.”  If you are always saying yes, people will take advantage of that… and you will find that your list of things to do grows daily, adding to your stress.  Start saying “no” and your stress will be much less.

You can also help manage your anxiety and stress by exercising daily. Exercise makes you feel good and it helps to reduce any tension that you are carrying in your body.  Thirty minutes of exercise daily will have tremendous benefits.

Anxiety and stress happens…but it can be managed.  By doing so, you will be helping to keep a healthy life style - physically and mentally.  This is not something that you need to have to live with. Chart your course to anxiety and stress management today and feel the benefits of a healthy life style.
